She used to go out to the field to meet her father at the end of the day and ride in on the necks of their draft horses. They were way to big to straddle except at the neck (probably Belgians, which were popular for farming in Ohio back then - really huge, huge horses).I feel so good when readers identify with precisely what I am trying to do. I personally think old houses are almost as interesting as the lives of the people who live in them, and thus try to bring this across in my descriptions of them.Dan Newlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01054536465220812092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1616769513702255459.post-17249599404881321042010-01-24T00:29:31.806-03:002010-01-24T00:29:31.806-03:00Oh, Dan, how pleasant it is to read about your day...Oh, Dan, how pleasant it is to read about your days in Wapa! This time, I've particularly enjoyed reading about your sister's horses, and about Jenny. :)

Hugs,

GabrielaGabriela Mejíashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08534984984643690187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1616769513702255459.post-27819279698838379132010-01-23T22:12:40.199-03:002010-01-23T22:12:40.199-03:00Hi Dan!
I've only read up to 'Hardy Boys, ...Hi Dan!
I've only read up to 'Hardy Boys, Ghosts and Murder So Foul', but highly enjoyed the first part. You have such a knack for description with humor thrown in! You make everything come alive, along with the old house and its autonomous 'being in the world'... ;-)
I identified immediately with the love of horses, except that my own brother would have nothing to do with them. He was going to be an engineer! But I was fortunate enough to straddle an enormous carthouse when I was only three! It wandered off with me on its back and came up against a fence, where it decided the trip had finished. It seemed ages before my father came to un-straddle me. I just had some sort of rope to hang on to. But then came more & better animals, until I finally had a beautiful steed of my own!!
I also read All the books about horses, a dozen times each.
Thanks for the great read, hope to return soon to the second part. I also loved The Hardy Boys!
Hugs, SylviaSylviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01104063373122049938noreply@blogger.com
