Also the person responsible for my meeting my wife, Virginia, another porteña from Buenos Aires, and Jan's very first YFU exchange student. I also met Adrianna Corra in Buenos Aires when I was a newspaper reporter there and Jan came for a visit. I remember that she lived with a roommate in a nice apartment in the Palermo district. I don't want to think about how many years ago that was...but right around 40. I aleays wonder whatever happened to her, where she is today. Jan Smith was an exemplary educator. RIP, Jan. I love your blog, Dan. Brings back so many memories.Victoriahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00099811424086777135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1616769513702255459.post-44249107942683194502010-03-22T08:10:57.814-03:002010-03-22T08:10:57.814-03:00JoAnne, thank you so much for sharing your thought...JoAnne, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me. I am moved by them, coming from someone with whom I shared so much of my childhood and adolescence. Your dad's belittling comments remind me a great deal of many I heard from my own father, and help me understand a little more why we always hit it off as friends back then. (It was kind of like looking into a mirror). I'm really glad you enjoyed the tour of homes and apreciate your sharing it with others who might be interested. These essays have helped see where an eventual book on those bygone but still vividly remembered days might go.Dan Newlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01054536465220812092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1616769513702255459.post-22815818506653074092010-03-22T08:00:10.230-03:002010-03-22T08:00:10.230-03:00Virgina,

Sabés que te admiro mucho como escritora y es, por lo tanto, un cumplido que aprecio muy especialmente el hecho de que te hayas sentido identificada con mi relato.Dan Newlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01054536465220812092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1616769513702255459.post-51934890118306346752010-03-18T22:52:36.145-03:002010-03-18T22:52:36.145-03:00I laughed out loud at your baseball experience abo...I laughed out loud at your baseball experience about catching flies!!! Someone who is so gifted with music and writing didn't need to waste time with agressive sports!!! (Norm was wrong.) Only lifetime sports are important...the sports we can still enjoy. Of course swimming is still my favorite! :)
Your band experience was similar to mine. I began on one instrument, dropped out and came back as a drummer. I started out on flute but my dad refused to pay $170 for a "polished piece of pipe with holes in it." When my daughter joined band she wanted to play flute, so we purchased one!!
I have enjoyed your "Tour of Homes" blog. My memory isn't as easily "played back" as yours, but thank you for dusting away the cobwebs inside the "jutebox" and dropping in the coins so that I, too, could remember "the good old days" in Wapak!

Me encantóVirginia Prietohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07768007063216738541noreply@blogger.com
